Yup. We are catholic AND spiritual. We aren't Roman Catholic, but Holy Angels parish is recognized as having valid orders and apostolic succession.
"Catholic" means "universal" and that is the essense of this community -- one that accepts and affirms all people on their path.
Holy Angels Online Community is a long-held dream of clergy Deborah Vaughan and Jean Porche who come to Community Catholic Church of Canada from Anglican and Roman Catholic backgrounds respectively.
For both Deb and Jean, the Church of their childhood has been a huge part of their lives. Much of their life has been devoted to ministering, teaching and participating in the life and work of their parishes.
As they began to work with angels and open to other spiritual understandings -including the writings of Christian Mystics- they came to recognize that the traditions, rules and doctrines of their respective Churches seemed confining and narrow.
In fact, as their spiritual understanding of Divine Love grew, it came clear that the traditional Church's teaching and doctrines seemed to have very little to do with the teachings and example of Jesus, but a lot to do with the human quest for power and control. This caused a great deal of soul-searching and questioning.
It is important to note that Deb and Jean have the utmost respect for those who find comfort and meaning in their faith communities. There are many paths to the One Source and they respect all who seek Divine Love.
Discovering the Old Catholic Church, Deborah and Jean realized that they could have the best of all worlds - a recognized church and an inclusive, progressive and supportive community.
The purpose of this online -- and parish-- community is to support those who are walking the path of Love, exploring Spiritual truths and growing in their understanding of Jesus and love for the Creator.
Deborah was received as priest by The Most Reverend Patricia Davies, Archbishop of the Community Catholic Church of Canada in 2005. Jean was ordained as a Deacon in 2008. Archbishop Patricia authorized the formation of Holy Angels Parish in 2005.
Not everyone can get to Niagara for church services, so Deborah and Jean are offering ministry through this website and other ways for people in diverse places to come together as a Church community online. We hope that you can join us.
